Important Info for Winter Choir Concert Wed, Dec 6

Our students are looking forward to sharing their music at our Winter Choir Concert on Wednesday, December 6, at 7:30 pm, in Stretton Hall!

During school on Tuesday, December 5, all choir students will spend 1st-3rd periods rehearsing together in Stretton Hall. (Students may wear regular school clothes.) Students are responsible for making up missed work from their 1st-3rd period classes.

Wednesday, December 6, all choir students are required to be in Stretton Hall, dressed in concert attire, comfortably before 6:00 pm.

Our course expectations documents have reminders of performance requirements and policies. Significant points are deducted for even one minute of lateness, and proper concert attire is required in order to perform.

The concert begins at 7:30 pm and will last till about 9:15 pm, including a 15-minute intermission.

After the concert, all are invited to a cookie reception in the cafeteria.

Choir families are asked to contribute one plate/tray/box/bag of cookies to the reception. On Dec 6, cookies may be dropped off in the choir room in the afternoon or the cafeteria in the evening.

Spring Choir Concert Saturday, May 13

Our choir students are looking forward to our final concert of the year, Saturday, May 13, at 4:00 pm in Stretton Hall!

Students are called to Stretton Hall by 1:00 pm on Saturday, May 13 for a pre-concert dress rehearsal. Students: please arrive very comfortably before 1:00 and check in with your President. Punctuality is very important. (See lateness policies.) Also, please bring a water bottle and a snack. Concert attire, detailed here, is the same as usual.The concert will conclude around 5:30 pm.

Immediately following the concert, please join us for a celebratory picnic on the CHS front lawn (rain location: CHS cafeteria). All students and families are invited to attend.

Our CHS VPA Boosters will provide hoagies and pizza. Each choir member is asked to contribute one item to share.

  • Women’s and Men’s Choir: drinks
  • Concert Choir: dessert
  • Select Choir: side dish/snack/salad

Please bring blankets and lawn chairs, as well as outdoor activities, if you like. If you are able to lend a cooler, ice, or folding table, that would be a great help. Please contact Lori Smull, the VPA hospitality chair, with questions about/contributions to the picnic.

This will be a wonderful way to conclude our year’s work in choir. Looking forward to seeing you all Saturday the 13th!

District-Wide Tour Friday, January 20, 2017

Friday, January 20, our vocal groups will entertain their fellow students on our 6th Annual Cheltenham School District Tour of elementary and middle schools!

Select Choir, Touring Ensemble, Up the Octave, and Sons of Pitch will perform for five district schools plus the district staff and administration.

We will meet in the choir room at 8:25 am and return to CHS around 4:00 pm.

Select Choir, TE, UTO, and Sons Members:

  • Please be sure you’ve blocked off all day up to 4:00.
  • Talk to your teachers in advance about making up the work in your missed classes. Complete your work promptly.
  • Bring a lunch and a water bottle, plus snacks if you like. We’ll eat lunch at the Admin Building around 1:00.
  • REQUIRED ATTIRE is dark blue jeans and a nice looking, long-sleeved black top. Your shoes should look decent.  (TE: make sure they’re shoes and jeans you can dance in!) Proper attire is required to go on the trip.

Many thanks to our district administration and our building principals for welcoming us into their schools again this year. It’s going to be a fun day!

Winter Choir Concert this Wednesday, December 7!

Our Cheltenham Choirs’ Winter Concert is this Wednesday, December 7, in Stretton Hall at CHS. All students are called at 6:00pm, and the concert begins at 7:30pm.

Students are called to Stretton Hall, in required concert attire, before 6:00 pm. The required dress rehearsal is 6:00-7:15. The concert, which includes an intermission, will start at 7:30 and conclude around 9:15. Admission is free, and refreshments will be available at intermission.

Our students are excited to share their music with you. We look forward to seeing you Wednesday night!

First VPA Boosters Meeting of the School Year! Thurs, Sept 22, 7pm, CHS Choir Room

CHS Vocal Performing Arts Boosters Meeting this Thursday, September 22!

We are fortunate to have a vibrant parent group whose support is vital to our choir/vocal performing arts program. Please consider attending the CHS VPA Boosters’ first 2016-17 meeting this Thursday night, September 22, 7:00-8:00pm, in the CHS Choir room. Thanks very much for your support.

Congrats to Touring Ensemble, Select Choir, Up the Octave, and Sons of Pitch! They had a very successful day of performances Friday, January 22 at Elkins Park School, Cheltenham, Myers, Glenside, & Wyncote Elementaries, plus our Administration Building.

You all received well-deserved raves from audience members: “Students are extremely talented….The performance was awesome…The highlight of my week!…Awesome experience for all our students….Such a treat!”

CHS Choirs Restaurant Night at Bertucci’s Wed, Nov 4!!

Please support our Cheltenham choral and vocal programs by dining at Bertucci’s at 2190 County Line Rd, Huntingdon Valley, PA 19006 on Wednesday, November 4. Dine in, take out, or delivery; from 11:00am to 10:00 pm, 15% of all proceeds go to the Vocal Performing Arts Boosters.

The evening will include short performances by our a cappella groups around 6:30.

Just present this flyer at the restaurant, or let your server know your bill should go toward the CHS choir program. Thank you for your support!

Vocal Workshop this Saturday, October 10, 9a-1p!

Free Vocal Workshop for all CHS Choir Students this Saturday, 9a-1p!

Join Bucknell University’s Beyond Unison, led by Alli Aaron (CHS ’12), for a fun and casual workshop and performance on Saturday!

Beyond Unison is a fabulous co-ed a cappella group from Bucknell University. The group will make a special stop on their fall tour to work with our Cheltenham singers. They’ll perform for our students, teach everyone a song, do some singing games and exercises with everyone, and coach each of our a cappella groups on one of their songs. (For our a cappella group members, this is a required gig).

The workshop will start at 9:00 am in the choir room.  At 12:30 pm, our students and Beyond Unison will perform a casual concert together in Stretton Hall. The 12:30 concert is open to everyone: parents, friends, students, and community members!

The workshop is free. A continental breakfast, available for $4, will be available for purchase at 10:15am. Thanks to VPA for providing the great breakfast option.

All choir students, please join us for the workshop!  Parents and supporters, hope you can join us for the 12:30 concert in Stretton Hall!

Winter Concert Date Change

Our Cheltenham Winter Choirs Concert (originally scheduled for December 21) will take place Wednesday, December 9, at 7:30 pm, in Stretton Hall.

Performers’ call time for that concert will be 6:00pm on December 9.

The in-school field trip that serves as our dress rehearsal will be Tuesday, December 8, during 4th, 5th, and 6th periods.
