TE FLYER for 2014 Debut

Feedback from Judges at Music in the Parks Festival, May 2014

On May 30, 2014, our Select Choir and Touring Ensemble performed at the Music in the Parks Festival in Bethlehem, PA. The 40 students, 3 chaperones, 2 guests and I had a great time performing and watching other groups perform; then we enjoyed spending the afternoon together at Dorney Park.

A highlight of such festivals is the feedback we get from the festival adjudicators. At their performances, both Select Choir and Touring Ensemble received ratings, written feedback, and verbal comments from two well-respected, veteran choral educator-musicians. Both CHS ensembles earned Superior ratings, and their point totals were higher than the scores of any other groups at the festival. Congratulations!

The judges offered suggestions about the crispness of our consonants, Select Choir’s use of folders vs. memorization, and Touring Ensemble’s style of choral sound, among other details. Overall, their feedback was very positive. Some of the judges’ positive feedback, in their own words, is included below in a fun CHS word cloud.

Congratulations again to our Select Choir and Touring Ensemble on a very laudable culmination of the year’s work! In the words of one of our adjudicators, “You have represented yourselves and your community and your school tremendously.”

Choral Festival/Dorney Park Trip Friday, May 30

Hello Select Choir and Touring Ensemble!

Please see this info sheet for all the details on the festival performances/Dorney Park trip next Friday. Looking forward to it!

Festival/Adjudication and Dorney Park visit Friday, May 30, 2014

Hello CHS Choirs!

Concert Choir, Select Choir, and Touring Ensemble Members and Families: Please see the letter below about the upcoming Festival/Adjudication and Dorney Park trip on May 30.

This letter and the required Permission Slip are available here. (Hard copies are in the choir room for students.)

On Friday, May 30, 2014, our Concert Choir, Select Choir, and Touring Ensemble students will participate in a valuable choral performance festival and adjudication in Bethlehem, PA. These three groups will have the opportunity to perform for and receive comments and ratings from well-respected choral music experts. After the performances in the late morning, the students and I, along with several chaperones, will have time to enjoy the rides in Dorney Park, in Allentown, before returning to school. We’ll leave school at 7:30 am and arrive back around 6:30 pm.

The fee for this day-long experience, including the music festival, adjudication, Dorney Park admission ticket, and bus transportation, is $65.*If this fee is a stretch for your family budget, or if you need to make payments in installments or seek financial assistance, please get in touch with Ms. Hutton as soon as possible; our program will do all we can to help to make the trip feasible for any willing student. A deposit of at least $25 is due by Friday, April 25, and payment in full ($65 total) is due by May 15. These payments must be made via the Online Payment Center at cheltenham.org, under CHS Music.

Details:

  • We’ll depart CHS at 7:30 am and arrive back at school at approximately 6:30 pm.

  • All students should bring a bag lunch.

  • Students should wear to school their concert attire. Touring Ensemble will perform last, so TE members in Concert or Select will bring their TE outfit with them and change in between performances.

  • Everyone should bring a change of clothes for the Park.

  • Students may choose to bring spending money for snacks or souvenirs.

  • Please note that all school policies are in effect, and students are expected to act as exemplary members of our school and our choir program.

Here is the Permission Slip for this trip. If your child will attend, please return this form to Ms. Hutton and make the $25 deposit at the Online Payment Center–under “CHS Music”–at cheltenham.org by Friday, April 25.

If you have questions, please don’t hesitate to get in touch. Looking forward to a wonderful experience with our students on May 30!

-Ms. Hutton
