Select Choir Work for Wed, 3/26

Hello, Select Choir!

Here’s your work for today, to be completed in the library.

Key Signature Exercise (click to go to customized exercise) When you’ve done this exercise for 4-6 minutes, write down your grade–both your percentage and your number of attempts– in the blank paper/written reflection area of your choir binder.

Now, try some Key Signature Construction. Customize the settings as you wish. When you’ve done this exercise for 6-8 minutes, write down your grade in your blank paper/written reflection area of your choir binder.

Ear Training: Scales (click here to go to customized exercise) A different skill! When you’ve done this exercise for 6 minutes, write down your grade in your blank paper/written reflection area of your choir binder.

Finally, carefully read this poem by James Agee (1905-1955). (Read it as a poem, not as lyrics to a choral composition by Morten Lauridsen.) Write a paragraph or two: what is the essence of what this text communicates? What questions do you have about the poem?

Sure on this shining night
Of star made shadows round,
Kindness must watch for me
This side the ground.
The late year lies down the north.
All is healed, all is health.
High summer holds the earth.
Hearts all whole.
Sure on this shining night I weep for wonder wand’ring far
alone
Of shadows on the stars.
