Concert this Sunday!!

Hello Cheltenham Choir Families!

I hope you are looking forward to the concert this Sunday as much as the students and I are! It’s going to be a fantastic performance in a beautiful, historic, acoustically-friendly space. As a reminder, the concert is at 5:00 pm, Sunday, March 11, 2012, at Christ Church in Center City Philadelphia (2nd and Market).

Reminder: students are required to be at the school by 2:00 on Sunday, dressed, prepared, and ready to board the bus. (Note also that daylight savings time starts Sunday; clocks move forward an hour.) Students should consider bringing a snack(s) to tide them over till the end of the concert, around 6:00.

We still need one more parent chaperone to accompany the students down to the city on one of the school buses. If you can arrive at the school at 2:00 and help with this, please let Ms. Hutton know asap. That chaperone would also assist by handing out programs and greeting audience members at the concert.

Also, please let Ms. Hutton know if you can help by video recording the concert for archival purposes.

This would be a huge help! Thank you!

We hope you will all be able to come to the concert! It showcases some wonderful music-making. Repertoire ranges from a gypsy folk song (and dance!) to a Renaissance piece in Latin, to a Hebrew folk song, to an Indian pop song, to a French Romantic piece with organ–and more. All four CHS choirs will perform, and the concert features students singing from all areas of the space, including the aisles and balcony. We will be accompanied by Parker Kitterman, Director of Music at Christ Church, on both piano and organ. Instrumentalists will accompany our singers on guitar, violin, bass, and percussion.

Plus, since the concert will be done around 6:00, it’s a great opportunity to spend some family/friend time together in the city–perhaps go out for dinner afterwards! Please note: if your student is not riding back to CHS on the school bus, the choir’s President and I should be informed in advance; after the concert, we will want to see that student with their trusted adult before they leave. Thanks!

Finally, one note on parking, if you plan to drive:

The church has no private parking, but you have several easy options. 1) Street parking. 2) The pay lot behind the Christ Church Neighborhood House (next door to the church), or 3) Penn’s Landing, which is only 2 blocks away at the end of Market and has plenty of parking.

Thank you for your consistent support of our excellent student musicians. I hope to see you all Sunday evening!!!
